This article analyzed the states with the highest and lowest rates of burglary in the country.  Burglary is an offense that include unlawful entry of a structure to commit a felony or a theft, as well as an attempt of forcible entry.  In the USA, burglary is also known as breaking or entering.

  • Residential properties burglaries accounted for 75% of all burglary offenses
  • 60% of burglaries involved forcible entry, whereas 34% were unlawful entries and 6% percent were attempted forcible entry
  • Number of burglaries accounted for 23% of the estimated number of property crimes
  • In 2012, total property losses of burglary offenses was $4.7 billion

 Compared to 2011, burglary rate was decreased 3.7% in 2012 to 2.1 million offenses.
